January 6: Eye contact. I was sitting in my car, scarfing some fast food and listening to the radio when I noticed what can most expediently be described as a crazy old homeless guy wandering the parking lot. I was wearing my sun glasses so felt safe that he wouldn’t come over and ask me for money. Then I realized what I had just thought and took off my glasses and made eye contact. Sure enough he came over to my car. I rolled down the window, wondering how much change I had left from my grilled sourdough burger, no sauce. “You’re pretty,” he said. “Thanks,” I said. And he walked away.

I’m supposed to be marketing, but I canna resist telling a similar tale. I was walking down Ste-Catherine St with my husband. A young guy sitting on the street called, “Buddy. Hey, buddy.”
I tensed, waiting for the money plea.
The guy said as we passed, “Buddy. If I were you, every day, I’d wake up and thank GOD.”
I processed that, threw back my head and *laughed*.
“You like that, do you?” he said, pleased.
I sure do. It still makes me smile and counteracts all that ugly duckling middle school stuff I still carry around in the back of my head.

What a great story. It just goes to prove things aren’t always what you think they are and besides what a wonderful experience you would have missed if you hadn’t taken your glasses off.

I don’t know what’s the best part of these posts–that you post every day, or the stories you tell–
